    Librarian - II AF

    Position Summary

    Under the general direction of library management, the Librarian II performs a variety of professional library work such as:  develops, maintains, and markets library collections and other materials; selecting/purchasing library. Provides professional library reference assistance; Designs, plans/coordinates, promotes, and present various library programs and services to meet the needs of library patrons.  The Librarian II assists Supervisors in supervising lower level library staff and volunteers, planning, coordinating the operations and activities of an assigned branch or department, as needed.  This position is accountable for the opening and closing of the library including maintaining and securing the building and grounds.   

    A Librarian-II is distinguished from a Librarian-I by the requirement for a Master’s Degree in Library Science.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge Principles and procedures of professional library administration, methods, practices, and techniques of library classification, cataloging, references, library collections, systems and online applications; Policies, rules and regulations governing conduct and safety of library programs and facilities;   Working knowledge of reference tools and services; Standard bibliographic sources, the on-line cataloging databases, and verification tools;  techniques and protocols for researching a wide variety of bibliographic databases; personal computers; and specialized software applications; City municipal codes; policies and procedures.   

    Skills Provide excellent customer service to and interact with persons of different social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. Have a good working knowledge on the Use of technology, equipment and software.  Perform a wide variety of technical library support functions; develop, coordinate, and conduct library programs and activities; utilize and maintain automated library systems and computer equipment; library database research & maintenance; identify library collection issues and develop suggestions for enhancements; recognize and resolve conflicts in library data entry; organize workload to keep pace with flow of library materials and services.  

    Abilities Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands; communicates effectively verbally and in written forms; perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.  

    Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities Internal: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; Works with library staff on special projects and promotions. External: Assists library customers in person and remotely to locate requested information or use library resources in print, in other formats, and online.

    Essential Functions

    The following functions are typical for this position.  The omission of specific functions does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

    • Plans, organizes, publicizes and implements library educational or other special projects and programs within assigned areas (e.g., children’s story time); monitors program contractors to ensure contract compliance; may also develop materials and/or serve as instructor for designated projects and programs (e.g., internet safety training); participates in developing, designing and setting up exhibits and displays.  Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services in such areas as children’s services, adult services, computer access services; recommends program and procedure changes. 
    • Perform a variety of professional tasks related to the circulation, acquisition or cataloging of library materials; assist in the processing and maintenance of library materials; provide assistance at public information desks within the library.
    • Assists management with overseeing, training, and monitoring performance of staff; prepares schedules and assigns work activities to lower level library staff and library volunteers.
    • Updates electronic databases with new library inventory and materials available to the public. 
    • Assumes total responsibility of the Library when designated.
    • Performs original, contributed, and copy cataloging (physical or electronic) for library materials in all formats and supervises preparation of received materials.
    • Instructs patrons in use of print, online and other library resources; advises patrons and answers reference questions involving specialized subject knowledge and special collections; researches and requests inter-library loans; places "holds" on materials and selects and pulls materials for patrons, as requested.  
    • Provides reference assistance, user instruction and readers’ advisory service to patrons  conducts reference interviews to determine patron needs and instructs and guides patrons in locating, selecting and using books, periodicals and other print and non-print materials; orients and informs patrons about library procedures and practices and specialized information sources, specialized library material collections and similar services.
    • Evaluates, selects, orders, and weeds materials to maintain effective and timely library collections in line with the library’s collection development plan and budget guidelines.  Participates in selection of both book and non-book collections materials; participates in assigned collection development committees and makes selection and purging recommendations; analyzes, determines needs, selects and de-selects library collections in specific broad subject fields and monitors and complies with budget; acts as a subject specialist in assigned field(s); may meet with publisher representatives to review material; may oversee maintenance of special collections; assesses donated and damaged materials for disposition and sorts materials for binding, mending, replacement or withdrawal.  
    • Contributes to the marketing of the library collections by giving library tours and by developing and maintaining displays, bibliographies, flyers, brochures, and library user guides, both printed and electronic.
    • Records service statistics, answers correspondence and telephone calls, develops procedures as needed, and contributes to the development and revision of library planning documents, including budget items.
    • Keeps abreast with professional developments and current events; reads journals, reviews books, bibliographies and other media. Participates in applicable educational opportunities.
    • May empty book-drops when closed and on holidays, when needed.
    • Serves on library committee’s as assigned.
    • May be scheduled/required to work nights and weekends.

    Cataloging Librarian

    SALARY $52,469 (Dependent on qualifications) 

    The Cataloging Librarian is responsible for providing original and copy cataloging of library materials in all formats to meet quality and production expectations across the collections in a team and project-based environment.  The Cataloging Librarian applies metadata for a wide range of formats, using current and emerging metadata schema, principles, and practices. With the team of librarians and the Director of Golden Library, the Cataloging Librarian will develop and maintain cataloging processes, procedures, and workflows.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Working in a team-oriented environment, the Cataloging Librarian will:

    • Supervise and train employees and student workers who perform copy cataloging and technical processing operations.
    • Actively participate in the development, implementation and training of cataloging standards and practice. The Cataloging Librarian assumes responsibility for their own continuing education and keeps current on updates, developments and changes in standards and tools required for their work.
    • Maintain the authority control system of the library and perform original and copy cataloging /classification in all formats using RDA, LC-PCC Policy Statements and Program for Cooperative Cataloging guidelines, Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress subject headings and genre/form terms.
    • Oversee cataloging materials in all formats including print, digital, manuscripts, rare books, AV, archival and pictorial materials.
    • In collaboration with the Golden Library Systems Administrator, takes a lead role in maintaining and configuring the ILS.
    • Manage controlled subject vocabularies and apply metadata schema and metadata crosswalks to improve access to the Golden Library website, databases, digital media, etc.
    • Reviews all MARC records loaded into the system to ensure they meet standards and has authority in all instances to alter bibliographic copy, treatments, or classification of previously cataloged materials in order to achieve optimum bibliographic control and access.
    • Serve as a collection development liaison for assigned disciplines and collaborate with faculty to develop these areas of the print and digital collections. 
    • Provide reference services and research/information literacy instruction as needed. 
    • Assist with specialized reports and perform other duties as assigned. 
    • Contribute to Golden Library initiatives that further ENMU’s commitment to diverse learning.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Job Requirements

    A master’s degree in Library Science and a minimum of two years experience directly related to the duties specified is required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Working knowledge of all facets of library operations.
    • Knowledge of common metadata schema (XML, RDF, RDA, MARC, Library of Congress classification and Dublin Core), crosswalks, concept mapping, and interoperability issues.
    • Experience working with an Integrated Library System.
    • Experience using Microsoft Office (Office 360) and familiarity with virtual/webex meeting technologies.
    • Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changes in the profession.
    • Evidence of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Evidence of problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
    • Ability to interpret and evaluate client informational needs and to determine appropriate alternative solutions.

    Physical Demand and Working Conditions

    • Work is performed during normal work hours with some evening and weekend hours.  
    • Work is sedentary in nature that requires exerting up to 10 lbs of force consistently, or up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

    The CDD is seeking a full-time Library Operations Manager to lead and oversee the CDD Library and Information Network. The ideal candidate will exhibit excellent customer service and public relation skills, as the library is the public face of the CDD. The position will also represent the library at community events and meetings. Responsibilities include standard library procedures such as processing, classifying, cataloging, shelving, stack maintenance, assisting library patrons to find materials, circulation, and maintaining journals. This position will also create displays, plan events, monitor the book drop and the returns, assist in keeping the holdings current by acquiring new materials and weeding.

    The library uses the EOS.WEB ILS system for adding new patrons and checking items in and out of the library. The position will develop educational materials and presentations, and conduct both online and in person trainings on the use of accessing information and resource. This position works with other CDD departments to select and acquire new materials relevant to the staff and public related to assisting individuals with disabilities and their families. This position will research journal articles upon request.

    This position plays a critical role in ensuring the library functions efficiently while strategically managing resources to enhance access to specialized information for individuals with disabilities, their families, and professionals throughout New Mexico.

    The Library Operations Manager will take on a leadership role by providing independent oversight of strategic planning, grant reporting, and compliance auditing.

    Archivist

    Position Summary

    The Archivist is responsible for managing archival collections and institutional records including: accessioning, describing, preserving, creating finding aids for physical and digital materials. Manage and maintain the archive database, archive storage systems and inventories, and security of archival materials. Work collaboratively on the development and maintenance of the records management program. Support archive and library digital imaging activities such as: digitization, item-level descriptions and image cataloging, distribution of digital assets, and rights research.

    Responsibilities include but not limited to

    Archival Collections and Management

    • Process, rehouse, and describe archival collections

    • Work collaboratively to manage archival data in different systems and the archives database

    • Work collaboratively to prepare archival materials for exhibition, including assessment of condition and item-level cataloging in different systems

    • Work in collaboration with staff to oversee volunteers and interns

    • Support preservation of archival material

    Digitization

    • Prioritize archival collections and items for digitization

    • Work collaboratively to implement digitization workflows

    • Support digitization efforts to increase public-facing digital assets and metadata

    Records Management

    • Assist with tasks and procedures related to the life cycle of institutional records, including transfer of materials to the archives, destruction of materials, and permanent retention in the institutional archives

    Collections Coordinator

    The University of New Mexico (UNM) College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (CULLS) seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking Collections Coordinator within the Library’s Learning, Research, & Engagement (LRE) unit, reporting to the Director of LRE. The successful candidate will lead a comprehensive collection strategy with operational responsibilities including resource development, fund management, and vendor relations. The incumbent will coordinate and collaborate with colleagues across the University Libraries (UL) in the implementation of collection strategies and operations. Major stakeholder units include LRE, Access Services, Technical Services, the Center for Southwest Research (CSWR), and Assessment. The Collections Coordinator participates as a member of library-wide groups, task forces, and project teams as appropriate and is expected to work with a high degree of expertise in a shared decision-making environment. 

    This is a full-time, 12-month open rank faculty position. The Collections Coordinator will work to meet research and service requirements and will participate in faculty governance as detailed in the UNM Faculty Handbook. The annual salary starts at a minimum range of $76,267 with generous benefits. The faculty rank, tenure status, and salary are negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The desired start date is August 1, 2025.  

    The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, creative, and experienced librarian with a record of leadership and innovation. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, including adaptability, a willingness to listen, and a commitment to consensus-building. This individual will demonstrate their commitment to ongoing professional development and tenure and promotion requirements through scholarly research and publication, presentations, and service participation.  

    Education and Experience 

    Minimum Requirements:

     An earned master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library/information sciences program or equivalent. 

     Two years of collections experience in an academic or research library. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

     Five or more years of collections experience in an academic or research library. 

     Experience in collection development and knowledge of scholarly publishing practices and trends. 

     Experience developing and implementing strategic planning for collections and open access initiatives.  

     Experience with budget management for library collections. 

     Experience with vendor relations, communications, and negotiations. 

     Experience designing and managing projects, including bringing them to a successful conclusion. 

     Excellent analytical skills. Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis applications (i.e., spreadsheets, databases, data visualization tools, etc.). Experience using quantitative and/or qualitative data to inform decision-making. 

     Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

     Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment across organizational units. 

     A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as experience working with broadly diverse communities. 

     Experience working with library consortia. 

    Primary Duties 

     Leads the collaborative management and expenditure of the UL's acquisitions budget in consultation with the Collection Leads group and Director of LRE. 

     Leads and coordinates strategic development of the UL’s collections to support the University’s research and teaching mission. 

     Leads and coordinates the operational activities of the Collection Leads group and the Collections Advisory Committee. 

     Leads in the development and revision of CULLS policies, procedures, and guidelines related to collection development and management.  

     Actively collaborates to develop new strategies and evidence-based methodologies for the acquisition of scholarly resources and content, its management, and assessment across formats (including print, digital, media, data, and other emerging formats) and across delivery platforms.  

     Guides, supports, and identifies opportunities for improvement in the operational aspects of collection management across formats, including workflows, analysis, assessment, and project planning. 

     Serves as the UL’s key point of contact for vendors. Communicates and negotiates with vendors in the acquisition of new and ongoing subscription resources.  

     Gathers, prepares, and presents data and information to relevant UNM stakeholders to inform collection decisions. 

     Stays abreast of local, regional, national, and global trends in library collection subscription and licensing models and monitors emerging trends among research intensive academic institutions. 

     Supports distinctive collections and other CSWR collections budgets. 

     Collaborates with CULLS Director of Development to strategically advocate for and manage donor funds for collections.  

     Collaborates on library space projects relevant to collections.  

     May represent UNM in regional and national consortia.

    SUPERVISOR STAFF: Library Director or Designee

    BEGINNING RATE OF PAY: $28.71 p/h

    MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     High School diploma or GED

     Accredited degree in Library or Information Science or Six (6) years of experience working in a public library

     Four years of customer service experience

     Two (2) years of supervisory experience

     Two (2) years of experience working directly with purchasing & procurement

     Proficient in Excel (test)

    Job Description: The Library Supervisor is expected to provide exemplary public service. This position orients, trains and supervises public services staff, inclusive of scheduling hours, submitting payroll records, and assisting in the hiring, interviewing, and evaluating of library employees. The Library Supervisor has oversight of all public service functions and serves in rotation as Person In Charge (PIC).

    Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Continuous professional development and modeling of lifelong learning is expected. Assists the Deputy Director in collecting, preparing, filing and maintaining accurate records on purchase orders, requisitions, library invoices and payments made for the library. Tracks library use data for reporting. Prepares activity, financial, and inventory reports on a monthly and annual basis. Reviews, selects, and makes recommendations in the purchase of library materials. Responsible for scheduling use of the meeting rooms for public programming. Assists in planning and evaluating the library’s goals and objectives. In the absence of the Director and Deputy Director is in charge of the library. Must attend library and city meetings as assigned. Occasionally required to work at locations outside of the library. Evening and weekend hours are required.

    School Librarian

    St. Mary's Catholic School is seeking a dedicated and faith-filled school librarian to cultivate a love for reading, research and lifelong learning in our students while upholding Catholic values.  The librarian will oversee the school library, manage its resources, support curriculum objectives and foster an environment that integrates faith and knowledge. Must maintain a well organized and orderly library at all times. Develop and implement library programs that support literacy, research skills, and information literacy for students in all grade levels.

    Responsibilities

    Maintain and organize the school library and its inventory. Oversee the spring and fall book fairs. Stay current with trends in library science, technology and education. Educate students on responsible digital citizenship and ethical research practices. Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction.

    This position is a part time position.
